Lucky Rabbits Foot Keychain
These rabbits feet are a product of our own farmstead- Brangarrán Farm and Forest. We work with rabbits in a regenerative farming operation, producing both compost and meat. To honor the lives of these beautiful animals, we use all parts of them after harvest. Rabbits have a long history in many cultures mythologies, and rabbits feet have been used as a good luck charm for centuries.
The Celts first associated hares and later rabbits (the whole animal, not just it’s foot) with good luck back in 600 B.C. Since they live underground in burrows, it was believed they could communicate with the spirits of the underworld. Being both swift and prolifically fertile, a rabbit or hare were associated with prosperity and good luck.
Although the superstition of rabbit’s feet being associated with luck has some roots in European culture, the common North American myth originates from the African-American folk spirituality known as hoodoo. It’s said that rabbit’s feet are lucky because of their reproductive habits, so carrying a rabbit’s foot was thought to help with fertility. A rabbits foot charm had very specific (and strange) rules which made it lucky, including having to be the hind left foot, and the animal must have been killed in a graveyard, with the most luck having it killed on a grave of a “bad” person.
Today a rabbit’s foot is still considered a token of good luck because it reminds its owner to be courageous in adverse situations.
When you select the size you would like, we will send a photo of the current styles we have in stock in that size. All of the charms are unique, so you’ll be able to choose the one that suits you best.
